Open access to knowledge in the siences and humanities

December 12th, 2008

Open Access (OA) is an umbrella term covering a number of implementation concepts which, in the words of the Berlin Declaration
, support “open access to knowledge in the sciences and humanities”.
The open-access.net platform provides comprehensive information on OA
and offers practical implementation advice. The first round of the
project, which has already been completed, was devoted to building the
platform. The main goals of the current second round are to establish a
network of OA promoters as a lobby for OA on the science policy level
and to internationalise the open-access.net platform.’

Visualisation for Cloudworks

December 9th, 2008

Cloudworks is a great tool to collect and connect ideas on teaching (clouds) and people involved in teaching. What lacks is a visualized presentation of the connected ideas and people.

I think it should be possible to view the object in connection with other objects and people and then the connection from these people to other ideas and people. This is a poor sketch:

Visual_objects

This should be dynamic that you can move to other bubbles can see their relations to other objects and persons. I’m sure there is a software to generate this automatically.  ;-)

Blogging with ecto

November 22nd, 2008

This is the first entry produced with ecto. ecto is a nice blogging tool for OS-X which allows to write posts direct from the desktop, without to need to login, with a comfortable editor and a lot of features. It’s just like sending mails. Very nice. Thanks to Billy for the tip.
